In Vitro Assays and Reagents for
Blood-Forming Cells

CAMEO™-4, CAMEO™-96, HALO®-96 and 384, HemoFLUOR™-96 and HemoLIGHT™-96 provide you with the widest range of cell-based assays to study stem, progenitor and precursor cells of the blood-forming system. In addition, the culture reagents used in CAMEO™-4 and CAMEO™-96 assays are also available as ColonyGro™ Master Mixes. Similarly, the culture reagents used in most HALO®, HemoFLUOR™ and HemoLIGHT™ assays are available as CellExpand™ Master Mixes. At HemoGenix®, we believe that it is important to use the correct assay for the goal of the experiment or study. That is why we have divided our assays into those that detect and measure proliferation and those that detect differentiation. In addition, we now offer three types of proliferation assay depending on the readout or signal detection system, sensitivity and cost.
- Use CAMEO™-4 assays and ColonyGro™ Master Mixes when you need a colony-forming cell (CFC) assay and the goal is to detect differentiation ability or potential under clonal conditions.
- Use CAMEO™-96 when you need a colony-forming cell (CFC) assay, but the goal is to detect both proliferation and differentiation under clonal conditions.
- Use CAMEO™-96 when the goal is to standardize the "classic" colony-forming cell assay.
- Use CellExpand™ Master Mixes to perform stem and progenitor cell expansion studies that also require high-content screening, genetic analysis of cells, cell signalling studies etc.
- Use HALO® to measure proliferation ability or potential of lympho-hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells. This is the most advanced assay that incorporates both SEC™ and bioluminomics™ technology. It is the most sensitive of all assays for hematopoietic cells and includes reagents to calibrate and standardize the assay. To perform HALO®, a plate luminometer is required.
- Use HemoFLUOR™ when a plate luminometer is not available but a fluorescence plate reader is at hand. HemoFLUOR™ assays incorporate SEC Technology.
- Use HemoLIGHT™ when neither a plate luminometer or fluorescence plate reader is available. HemoLIGHT™ incorporate SEC™ Technology and uses a normal colorimetric/absorbance plate reader, similar to that for the majority of ELISAs.
Please note: CAMEO™-4 or any colony-forming cell assay cannot be used to quantify proliferation. It is correct to assume that proliferation has taken place so that colonies can be formed, but it is not possible to measure proliferation with a CFC assay. See Proliferation and Differentiation. Please use CAMEO™-96, HALO®, HemoFLUOR™ or HemoLIGHT™ to measure proliferation.
The table below shows the populations that can be detected using CAMEO™-4, CAMEO™-96, HALO® HemoFLUOR™ or HemoLIGHT™. Please note that CAMEO™-96 was formerly designated HALO®-96 MeC (methylcellulose).
