One ventilator for most research needs
The TOPO™ Small Animal Ventilator provides the gentlest artificial ventilation possible. The TOPO can be used for a wide range of animals, from mice and rats to larger animals. Offering both Controlled Volume and Controlled Pressure modes in one unit make the TOPO the ventilator of choice. Designed with the same features as human ventilators, it will always deliver the correct tidal volume. The TOPO Small Animal Ventilator offers built-in safety sensors which monitor airway pressure to detect and prevent over pressurization of the lungs. It is easy to use with large LED displays, intuitive controls and a clear inspiration flow meter. The internal pressure sensor monitors airway pressure to precisely control airway pressure. The Sigh Breath mode is used to periodically reproduce a natural sigh to prevent lung collapse.
Controlled Pressure, Timed Ventilation
With the Controlled Pressure mode, the TOPO delivers dynamic tidal volume, always giving the correct tidal volume. dynamic volume gives MRI capability. The ventilator is outside the magnet shield, yet airway pressure is precisely controlled with long lengths of tubing. Dead air space is not a problem. With Constant Pressure, ventilation of groups of animals is possible with one TOPO with each receiving the correct tidal volume.
Controlled Volume, Timed Ventilation
With adjustable percent inspiration, respiration rate and air flow. Inspiratory pressure is set to maximum and air flow is adjusted to achieve desired inspiratory pressure.
Inspiratory Assist
For larger animals, greater than 300 g, the TOPO inspiratory assist mode, helps the animal breath at its own respiration rate.
External Trigger
Signals from nerve activity, muscle contractions or computer can be used to trigger a respiration cycle.
High Frequency
Rates greater than 400 bpm with constant pressure protection in inspiratory assist mode.
High Pressure with PEEP
Normal or high frequency ventilation at high inspiratory pressure and high peak end expiratory pressure, actually resulting in a small I/E pressure difference.
Sigh Breath and Apnea
Inserts sigh inspiration at a higher pressure. Holding down the control induces apnea.
Using the pressure controlled ventilator is easy, controls can be preset or adjusted as needed while in use. Large LED displays monitor respiration rate and inspiratory pressure. Signals for airway pressure and ventilation cycle are available on front panel connectors. Accepts gas mixtures and nonflammable anesthetics. Only the air that is inhaled is used, all tubing pathways exit externally, no gas escapes inside the unit.
