Bio-X Center of Shanghai Jiao Tong University www.bio-x.cn

上海交通大学Bio-X中心(以下简称“中心”)是于2005年由NHGG(Neuropsychiatric and Human Genetics Group, 神经精神与人类遗传学研究室)和2000年成立的Bio-X生命科学研究基地经过重组凝练而成。
In 2005 the Bio-X Center of Shanghai Jiao Tong University was formed by bringing together NHGG (the Neuropsychiatric and Human Genetics Group) founded in March 1996 and the Bio-X Life Science Research Center established in April 2000. The mission of the Center is to provide a working platform for scientists engaged in interdisciplinary research in the field of life sciences and a forum for the exchange of ideas and information among research fellows and students from different disciplines and fields. The current director of the Center is Prof. Lin He, fellow of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the honorary director is Prof. Steve Zhu, a Nobel Prize Laureate.
The Center, consisting of a number of "core" and project-oriented "satellite" groups made up of high-caliber academics, senior researchers and specially appointed professors from both home and abroad, creative young scholars, technical support and administrative management personnel, as well as a number of postgraduates and post-doctoral fellows from various academic backgrounds, possesses world cutting-edge facilities and more than 2000 M2 of research space. The Center also boasts success in winning many types of project funds at both national and regional levels and has won various honors, including First Prize in the Shanghai Science and Technology Awards, First Prize in the Science and Technology Awards of the Chinese Ministry of Education, and Second Prize in the National Natural Science Awards. Furthermore, the Center enjoys at least three "Firsts" in the history of Shanghai Jiao Tong University: It produced the first leading scientist in the National 973 Program, was first to have a scientific paper published in Nature Genetics, and by obtaining the Second Prize, first to achieve success in the National Natural Science Awards.
The Center, while providing an open intellectual atmosphere and a wide-ranging research environment, aims to maintain an ethical and responsible approach to scientific endeavor, while being oriented to meeting key state requirements and to maintain a pioneering and innovative spirit. The Center is keenly aware that learning has to be based on solid principles of scientific method and a long term approach rather than the pursuit of quick success. As a result of its endeavors over a number of years the Center has created and accumulated an impressive pool of intellectual resources for our country and has built a rigorous and systematic research methodology geared to meeting today's scientific challenges. The current work modules include genetic mapping and cloning, functional genomics, pharmacogenomics, proteomics, DNA computing, bioinformatics, technical support, and national genetic resources protection network, etc.
The Center has an ambitious medium and long term programme of wide ranging and cross-disciplinary projects which include:
(1) EXPANSION PROJECTS:
The establishment of a Institute for Neuropsychiatric Sciences and Metabonomics in co-operation with Changning Greenland Hospital;
The establishment of a Bio-X Center Hospital;
The establishment of a National Sample Bank;
The establishment of a Developmental and Reproductive Research Base;
The establishment of a Nutrition and Health Research Base in conjunction with the Institute for Nutritional Sciences, CAS;
The establishment of a fundamental scientific research unit in co-operation with the Shanghai Mental Health Center;
The establishment of an Academy for Suzhou Yangzi Delta Systematic Bio-X Science in conjunction with the Jiangsu Wuzhong Group;
The launch of Phase 2 of a co-operative venture with AstraZeneca;
The continuation of Phase 2 of a co-operative venture with Roche.
(2) BASIC RESEARCCH:
The center has a fully developed programme of research in nutrition and health related areas, particularly those affecting mental health.
(3) LINKS WITH INDUSTRY: Where appropriate, the Center aims to speed up the application of translational medicine or to give its research an industrial orientation by applying its expertise in the genomics of disease, nutrition and drugs to shorten the time taken for new scientific discoveries to bring real, practical benefits to the population as a whole.
