Montage Explorer is the ultimate solution to the microscopists eternal problems of small viewable area and limited depth of focus.
Building on the capabilities of Auto-Montage, Syncroscopy has developed and patented an imaging system which allows microscope users to select a high magnification factor and move around the specimen under investigation, building up a high magnification composite image of the specimen
Most importantly, the user is in complete control, utilizing the normal manual microscope controls to move around the specimen creating the detailed image as they explore.
If the specimen contains large variations in height, by moving the specimen through the entire range of focus Montage Explorer will extract the in-focus elements and combine them into a fully focused composite image.
The spider image to the right is one example of the type of image Montage Explorer can create. The source image we used to create the image is 3kx3k in size and contains amazing detail.
Seamless image ‘stitching’
Montage Explorer provides support for automated stages, and can optionally be supplied with a high-precision XYZ-stepper stage – automated in all three planes. By use of an auto-calibration function Montage Explorer automatically measures the precise alignment between camera and sample, to ensure perfect ‘stitching’ together of images. For each magnification, the number of steps per pixel are automatically calculated in a few seconds. This means there is effectively no manual set-up procedure required, so saving time as well as increasing accuracy.
The system is ideal for use in a vast range of applications and is particularly well suited to samples with a large depth of focus. The system works with any optical microscope, without special modification, and images can be stored in a database, analysed, published or output as photo-quality prints at sizes up to A2.
